TDI requires bellypan off (car raised) to get filter off, which sort of defeats the benefits of sucking oil out thru dipstick…

I like the “.5” you added to the 7th gen. People that work on them will understand. Both are 5G styles but the 18-19 had the face lift. But I’ve seen this a few times. More on the new Audi DSG. They drain one area and fill another.

If only there was like a thing the manufacturer made that told you these things.

Volkswagen awd isnt connected through screws or metals .. it connects like a transmission thorque converter and connect through liquid that’s why there wasn’t major damage

Some learn the hard way. Don't do DIY if you have no idea what you are doing. My haldex gets serviced by experienced mechanics. 👍

First VW was 1975 Rabbit. Ran the heck out of it. Factory recall for valve guides. Great car 2002 Passat. Glad I didn't listen to the hate. One of my favorite cars. Factory recall for coils and that's it. 1996 Used Jetta. Never a problem. VW Fox(rebadged Audi) Ate drive axel seals. POS 2019 Sportwagen Burned a 1/4 of a quart of oil in 7000 miles. Not bad but did it from new. No other problems. 2021 Gti just a great car 2022 Taos SE Punched way above it's price point. Super comfortable and amazing gas mileage. 2024 Jetta SEL. Too soon to tell. It's the same platform and engine as the Taos Every new VW I've owned has exceeded mileage. The Taos lifetime average was 36.5 Never had a engine, fuel system, suspension failure. It was change the oil. When I traded the Passat in with 96,000 miles the brake pads still had a 1/3 left to go. I keep buying Volkswagens because they're just good reliable cars

So if he try to fill the full haldex with diff oil. Shouldnt it start to flow out after a few pumps, how can the owner not notice something wrong. It should hold 900ml

Unlikely you could find one, or afford it, but I would love to see a proper strip down, or rebuild of a w16 engine. Anyway Lucas electrics not as bad as made out to be, some issues, but show me a manufacturer who has never had issues. The Jaguar V12 engine notorious for seized heads, quite often they need a special tool, puller/ pusher plate device to shift them, due to corrosion build up on studs, also the studs that run in the water jacket can corrode badly and waist, then snap off when you try to remove. Extremely important to run the correct antifreeze.

@HumbleMechanic you mentioned that on tune stage 1 with high torque about the clutch holding more power than the mk7/mk7.5, i know you own an mk8 R and was curious if it would apply as well on the mk8 GTI (GTI owner here) holding the same power, does the mk8 GTI & R share the same clutch? thank you i am very interested on this topic.

You can totally salvage that Haldex unit and rebuild it with new OEM clutches and then just clean the pump. Granted, they aren’t expensive to replace. (529 innovations sells new friction materials) But yikes…. Talk about trying to save money and costing yourself a ton! May be a good candidate for an LSD rear end tho.

Had a buddy change the engine oil in his 5 speed escort. He mentioned it only took 2.5 quarts. We were at work and I wasn't paying that much attention when he told me. 5 or 6 weeks later he tells me his clutch went out and locked up the front wheels. Had it towed to a shop and had the clutch replaced. A few months later he brought it over to change the oil at my house. He climbs under and goes to work. I peak under and see red oil draining into the pan. It all finally made sense. I'm amazed that a new clutch was all it took to get it back on the road. I think that was the last time he ever attempted to change his own oil again.

My wrenches are in a tool roll, one side metric one side sae. I can drape the tool roll over something and now my wrenches are vertically stored. It’s pretty sweet. It works for me because I don’t necessarily work in a shop, but all around. It allows me to roll up my tools to transport, then display them when I need them wherever.

If you buy a vw and want to do your own maintenance always always buy the Bentley book for it !!! They are expensive but clearly worth every penny .
